River Tummel

The final of the 2023 National River Championship was held on the River Tummel on Sunday 6th August and was won by Scott Hamilton of Tweed Valley Tanglers. The top six make up the team of five and reserve that will represent Scotland at the 2024 River International in England.

Scott took the lead in session one where his 8 fish won him that session. He moved further ahead after winning the second session with 6 fish. In session three he had a third place with 4 fish and rounded off his day in session four with 3 fish and a second place to give him 7 place points from 21 fish and 6672 points.

Rab Maxwell of Clatto & Statheden AC was second with 17 place points from his 14 fish. In third place with 21 place points from 11 fish was Craig Brown of Strathgryfe AA. Richard McHattie of Aberdeen & District AA was fourth with 25 place points from 8 fish and Dick Logan of Coldstream & District AA was fifth with 29 place points from 7 fish. The sixth place went to David Downie of Team Fly Fishing World with 34 place points from 8 fish.

Heat 3 - 28th May 2023

River Tummel

The final heat of the River Championship was on 28th May and with nine competitors the top six go through to the final. Top rod was Dick Logan of Coldstream & Distict AA with 11 fish, 3558 points and 11 place points. Kenny Riddell of Aberdeen & District AA was second with 6 fish, 1848 points ad 16 place points. Andrew Foggin of Earlston AA was third with 9 fish, 2638 points ad 17 place points. Martin Stewart of Ormiston AC was fourth with 8 fish, 2342 points and 17 place points. David Downie of Team Fly Fishing World was fifth with 19 place points and David Chalmers of Lochgelly SRC AS was sixth with 23 place points.

Heat 2 - 21st May 2023

River Tummel

The second heat of the Scottish National River Championship was held at the River Tummel on Sunday 21st May. 12 anglers took part and the top 7 go through to the final. Top rod was Grant Gibson of St Boswells, Newtown & District AA with 14 fish for 3997 points and 11 place points. Close behind in second was Rab Maxwell of Clatto & Stratheden AC with 14 fish for 3971 points and 11 place points. Richard McHattie of Aberdeen & District AA was third with 8 fish for 2655 points and 18 place points. Matthew Skeoch of Crown FF was fourth with 12 fish and 20 place points; Michael Ward of Johnstone FF was fifth with 8 fish and 24 place points; Connor MacLennan of Strathgryfe AA was sixth with 9 fish and 25 place points and Mark Straughen of Coldstream & District was seventh with 7 fish and 28 place points.

The Scottish National River Championship got underway at the River Tummel on Sunday 7th May. 11 anglers took part and the top 7 go through to the final. Top rod was Scott Hamilton of Tweed Valley Tanglers with 16 fish for 5652 points and 7 place points. Mike Cordiner of Raemoir Trout Fishers was second with 9 fish for 2935 points and 13 place points.

Close behind in third was Ron Chesney of Crown FF with 8 fish for 2647 points and 14 place points. Lee Ross of Coldstream & District AA was fourth with 25 place points; Dean Mathew of Team FlyFishing World was fifth with 28 place points; Craig Brown of Strathgyfe AA was sixth with 29 place points and Scott Robertson of NCR AC was 7th with 29 place points.
